Sad. Also, most obits I'm reading seem to focus way too much on Hee Haw. He should also be remembered as a damn fine player. My father had a couple of his records and I recall thinking "This hick can play!"...or something along those lines.

He was just on a few recent reruns of the Beverly Hillbillies...

Though the music is canned, still nice to see.

The Hillbillies show was so much hokum and I'd have to think downright insulting to Appalachian folks, but it still brings me chuckles in a humorless world .

I think the show is pure genius and hysterical. What a cast of characters and the old as the hills tales of the country rubes out smarting the city folk.

I take it, it was cousin Roy,

TCM recently ran a silent movie "The Call of the Cumberlands".

I thought there were a lot a similarities from that film to the Beverly Hillbillies that I had to think someone from CBS had seen that and made a sitcom out of it.

Dustin Farnum became Jed who had the wise leader role, "head of the clan" as Granny would say.

Winnifred Kingston as the young lady with an affinity for animals and a petite elderly lady became Granny.

Good catch, I passed on it and the Early Women Film Makers but I will check it out next time.

And after watching that, they must have watched this as the tail end of the double feature:

Very sad that he is most remembered as the cornball co-host of Her Haw. As such, he seldom got the chance to really show his exceptional musical talent.

Agreed. He's a great example of how some guys -when their big paydays aren't necessarily one and the same with their true gifts- get remembered for the wrong things. Damn fine player indeed.
